Lawrence G. "Stub" Brown, 76, of 304 E. Elmwood Ave. Falconer, NY formerly of Twenty Eighth Creek Rd, Kennedy died at 2:40 a.m. Sunday (January 24, 2010) in WCA Hospital.
An area resident most of his life he was born March 4, 1933 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Chrystal and Eva Winkler Brown.
He attended Randolph Schools and had briefly served in the U.S. Navy.
Prior to retirement he had been employed by the former Blackstone Corporation retiring in 1989. In earlier years he had worked for several other local companies.
Lawrence was a life member of the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department where he had been vice president and fire police captain and the Chautauqua County Fire Police Association having served as director.
He enjoyed hunting, camping with family, and going to auctions.
Surviving are two sons, Lawrence Brown II of Falconer, NY and Daniel (Cindy) Brown of Erie PA; three daughters Deborah (Stephen) Rexford of Ellington, NY, Cora (Brian) Blair of Jamestown, NY, Betty Jo ( Randy) Caldwell of Statesville, NC; 12 grandchildren Shawn Rexford of Conewango Valley, NY, Jennifer Gagnon of Ellington, NY, Heather Blair, Justin, Jessica and Travis Brown of Jamestown, NY, Pamela Spiesman of Elmira, NY, Todd Blair of Westfield, NY Samantha and Carl Brown of Erie, PA and James Wright and Zachery Caldwell of Statesville, NC and 11 great grandchildren; 4 brothers John and Chrystal Brown of Bemus Point, Wesley and James Brown of Falconer, 4 sisters Cora Aldrich, Rossabelle Grimes, Laura Larkin and Marjorie Briggs all of Falconer and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine A. Overturf Brown whom he married July 27, 1956 in Kennedy, two sons Allen and Christopher Brown, a great grandson PJ Peterson, a brothers William Brown, an infant brother Charles Brown, a sister Leyla Borquin, an infant sister Hazel Brown.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Bruce Fish and Rev. Sue Fish will officiate. Burial will be in Gerry Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The Koinonia community will sing at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
