Walter A. Purdy, 93, of 1260 Hoag Rd., Ashville passed away Tuesday (February 23, 2010) in his home.
He was born August 18, 1916 in Blasdell, NY the son of the late Floyd and Emma Weipert Purdy.
Walter had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S Army serving from 1942 to 1946.
Prior to retirement in 1978 he was employed by Falconer Plate and Glass.
He enjoyed his relationship with God, reading his bible, gardening, playing the guitar and keyboard and traveling.
Surviving are is a son Charles F. (Sharon) Purdy of Celoron, a daughter Emmeline (Peter) Kapuscinski of Owego, NY, four grandchildren; Nicholas C. (Kathy) Purdy of Ashville, Renee` D. Purdy of Celoron, Timothy J. Kapuscinski and James M. Kapuscinski both of Owego, and a great grandson Gabriel Evan Purdy of Celoron.
He was preceded in death by his wife Leann McChesney Purdy on November 19, 1967, three brothers; Floyd, Ralph and William Purdy, four sisters; Leona Bus, Eva Anderson, Grace Hunter and Stella Bus.
The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Cathy Basile chaplain of Hospice of Chautauqua County will officiate. Burial will be in Cherry Creek Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
