Celoron- Wayne A. Tranmer, 88, of 37 West Duquesne St., passed away Sunday (July 4, 2010) in Erie VA Medical Center, Erie, PA, under the care of Hospice.

 An area resident most of his life, he was born April 27, 1922 in Cleveland, North Dakota the son of Raymond W. and Julia L. Stearns Tranmer.

He was a 1941 graduate of Falconer High School and had served in the US Army from1942-45 during WWII under the command of General George Patton in the invasion of Omaha Beach, Normandy, Northern France, Rhinland, Ardennes, Central Europe in the European Theatre with the 17th Tank Battalion, 3rd Armored Division receiving the Purple Heart.  Most recently he had received the Normandy Medaille DuJubile Metal from France in 1999.

 In earlier years he had drove truck, farmed, been employed at Blackstone Corp., was an adjuster for the National Grange Mutual Insurance Company, a clerk for Lombardo & Pickard Attorney’s and later for 25 years for Lucian L. Lodestro, Attorney, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the John W. Tiffany Post 53, VFW and a former member of the Henry Mosher Post 638, American Legion.

Wayne was a gentle kind man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, camping and cross country skiing.

Surviving is a daughter Gayle Gardner and her husband Bruce of Kennedy, three grandchildren Heather Gardner of Jamestown, Kaitlyn Gardner of Blaisdell, Sean Gardner of Kennedy, one special great grandson Cole Chapman, and a sister Doris Ray Galbraith of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty L. Fisk Tranmer whom he married January 25, 1946 in Jamestown, who died June 21, 2003, and two sisters Geraldine Galbraith in 2003 and Charlotte Williams in 1994.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (July 17, 2010) in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Lee O’Brien will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.

Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the memorial service Saturday in the funeral home.
