Helen B. Johnson, 95, of Ellington passed away Thursday (February 2, 2012) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident she was born December 30, 1916 in Ellington, the daughter of the late Marion L. and Bessie A. Sears Bagg. Helen was a graduate of Ellington High School and was Valedictorian of her class. In earlier years she was employed by G.G. Gilbert Pharmacy in Ellington, Knoph & Son Dept. Store and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company . Prior to retirement Helen was employed by the Town of Ellington as Town Clerk and Registrar of Vital Records. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Chautauqua County and Warren County Historical Societies, Chautauqua County Republican Committee, Town and County Clerks Association and Ellington Congregational Church. Helen was also instrumental in the development and completion of the current Ellington Town Hall and the fire proof vault for permanent records within the hall. Surviving are her nephew Robert (Debora) Carpenter of Kennedy, her niece Catherine (Raymond) Textor of Kennedy, three grandnephews: Michael (Shannon) Carpenter, Matthew Textor, Cameron Textor, a grandniece Sarah (Michael) Szczodrowski, a great grandniece Madison Szczodrwoski and a great grandnephew Laine Carpenter. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph H. Johnson whom she married June 16, 1946, who died March 14, 1980 and a sister Catherine B. Carpenter who died September 28, 2002. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Jennifer Delahoy pastor of Kennedy United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer. Friends will be received by the family from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the funeral service Monday. The family suggest memorials be donated to the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department, Ellington, NY 14732 or to the Farman Free Library, P.O. Box 26, Ellington, NY 14732.
