Carlton H. Rexford, Jr., 92, of Conewango Valley passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center with his children at his side.
He was born May 25, 1925 in Newton, NJ, the son of the late Carlton H. and Hilda Prutzman Rexford, Sr.
Carlton was a graduate of Cherry Creek High School and a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army 70th Infantry Division from 1944 to 1946, having earned the rank of Corporal. He served in Central Europe in Ardennes and Rhineland.
Prior to retirement in 1987, he was owner and operator, with his father, of Carlton's Garage for 41 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department and 74 year member of the Conewango Valley United Methodist Church. Carlton enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips with his wife, woodchuck hunting, woodworking, gardening, and taking photos. He was an avid reader of WWII history, current world events and how-to books. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two children: Stephen Rexford (Kimberly Scheer) of Ellington, Carla (Curt) Penwell of Clarendon, PA; four grandchildren: Shawn Rexford of Conewango Valley, Jennifer Gagnon of Gerry, Rev. Samantha Penwell of Midway, KY, Laura (Jordan) Stone of Phoenixville, PA; two great-grandchildren: Lyla and Brodie Gagnon.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Rhoda Bee Pritchard Rexford whom he married July 3, 1954 in Cherry Creek, who died August 4, 2015; and a brother Harold L. Rexford.
The funeral will be at 9:30 am Saturday, August 5th in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Jennifer Delahoy of Kennedy United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Cherry Creek Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family from 5 to 8 pm Friday, August 4th in the funeral home.
