Alice M. Howard, 89, formerly of Peck Settlement Rd., Jamestown passed away Wednesday (September 27, 2017) in the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center.
A lifelong area resident she was born February 1, 1928 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Clarence and Edith Hallquist Olson.
Alice attended Falconer High School and in earlier years was employed the former National Worsted Mills and Falconer Central School. Prior to retirement she was employed by Chautauqua County.
She was a member of the Falconer First Baptist Church and was a Grey Lady Volunteer at WCA Hospital for many years. Alice enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, lemon pie and coffee and buying Christmas presents for her family. She will be remembered as loving caregiver to her family.
Surviving are six daughters: Alyce "Pixie" (Michael) Barton of Jamestown, Valerie Pierce of Falconer, Kathleen Petersen of Fredonia, Theo (Thomas) Ames of East Berne, NY, Clare Pike of Concord, NH, Johanna Howard (Richard Purdy Sr.) of Portland, NY; eleven grandchildren: Erin (Robert) Williams, Dana Ames (Adam Bugbee), Kyle Pike (Kathleen Murphy), Jay Pike, Becky Caldwell (Eric Herron), Katie Canning (William Welch), Jamie (Tiffany) Barton, Brenda (Chris) Langdon, Dale Pierce (Ed Harrell), Richard Purdy Jr., Marie Purdy; eight great grandchildren and a brother Robert (Gertrude "Lucy") Olson of Falconer; a sister-in-law Betty Olson of Erie, PA.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Howard whom she married in 1969, who died in 2010; three grandchildren: Mikey Barton, Hannah and Theodora Petersen; four son-in-law's Charles Pierce, Ted Petersen, David Pike and Timothy Cudney; two brothers: Wallace and Clair Olson; a sister Beatrice Nelson.
Alice's family would like to thank the staff of Lutheran and Hospice of Chautauqua County and Palliative Care for the care Alice received.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Gordon Robbins and Rev. Robert Lewis will officiate. Inurnment will be in Allen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
