Delmarie E. "Dolly" Wickmark, 94, formerly of Gerry and Cassadaga passed away Sunday (December 31, 2017) in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing, Greenhurst, NY.
A lifelong area resident she was born December 17, 1923 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Linnea Bergquist Carlson. Dolly was very proud of her Swedish heritage.
Dolly attended a one room school in Ellington and remembers her parents sending her to school with a fresh surplus of eggs and baked goods to share with other neighborhood children during the great depression. She graduated from Falconer High School and was a member of the Falconer High School Marching Band and played the trombone. She laughingly remembered that when the trombone was fully extended, it was taller than her. Prior to retirement Dolly was employed by the former Homlunds Wallpaper Store where she enjoyed helping customers with home décor.
She was a member of the Gerry and Cassadaga Vally PTA, Gerry Methodist Church, Gerry Fire Auxiliary, Samuel Derby Post 558, American Legion Auxiliary, Chautauqua Historical Society and the Thule Lodge. Dolly enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and reading and traveling with the Gerry Travel Club.
Surviving are her son Steven T. (Nancy) Wickmark of Cassadaga; a daughter Chery (John) Collins of Jamestown; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace H. Wickmark whom she married June 14, 1947 in Falconer, who died December 31, 2004; a son Jeffrey A. Wickmark who died February 16, 2014; two sisters: Joyce Arrance and Erma Lanning.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Cindy Riggle, family friend will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
