Jean Lyon

Jean M. Lyon, 98, formerly of Falconer passed away Tuesday (January 9, 2018) in the Lutheran Home.

A lifelong area resident she was born January 6, 1920 in her home on Elmwood Ave. in Falconer, the daughter of the late Ernest O. and Georgia Metcalfe LeRoy.

Jean was a 1938 graduate of Falconer High School. In earlier years she had worked at First National Bank in Falconer as a bookkeeper in the 1940's, and at the Ben Franklin Store in Falconer in 1944. From 1961 to 1976 Jean and her husband Howard operated Falconer Laundromat. From 1977 to 1979 Jean and her husband and their partner Vernon Lyon owned and operated the Levant Roller Rink.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Falconer, the Moon Brook Rebekah Lodge and served as secretary for 25 years. While her boys were attending Northside Falconer School as well as FHS, Jean was an active participant with the Cub Scouts, PTA and served as room mother.

Jean loved her family very much and was the center for all holidays and celebrations. She enjoyed writing poetry and stories, especially children stories and had many pseudonyms. She would then give her written works to her children and grandchildren.

Jean and Howard vacationed at Miller's Cabins on Chautauqua Lake when her family was young. Later in life they enjoyed the Myrtle Beach, SC area as well as Cook's Forest, Marienville, PA.

Surviving are four sons: Kenneth (Gayle) Lyon, Jerry (ToniAnn) Lyon all of Falconer, Bradley Lyon and Donald Lyon both of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Carrie Lyon of Tarboro, NC, Kirk (Kristie) Lyon of Lakewood, Jason Lyon of Jamestown, Jeremy Lyon of Pittsburgh, PA; four great grandchildren: Lydia Potter, Kole Lyon, Annalise Potter, Emmeline Potter and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard J. Lyon whom she married May 24, 1941 in Falconer, who died March 23, 1999; three brothers: James, Stewart and Joseph LeRoy; three sisters: Caroline LeRoy, Margaret Neathery, Maxine Blood and close friend Buck Beck.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt chaplain of Lutheran Home will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.

Friends will be received by the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
