Obituary of Bernice Morey

Bernice H. Morey, 98, of Falconer, NY passed away, Tuesday, May 2, 2017 after a short illness.

She was born at home in Falconer on September 14, 1918, the daughter of the late William T. and Pearl Paxton Herrick. She was the widow of Benjamin A. Morey who passed away May 7, 1978. They were married June 28, 1941 by the Rev. R. W. Neathery in the original Falconer First Baptist Church building.

Bernice was a lifelong member of the Falconer First Baptist Church being Baptized at the age of 18. Until her passing she was the oldest and longest member of the church's congregation. Over the years she taught Sunday School, served as the assistant church secretary, was a member of the choir, the Mothers' Club, Ladies Circle, Diaconate and Membership committees.

Bernice was a graduate of Falconer High School Class of 1935 where she played the violin and sang in the choir. Upon graduation she completed an additional year of Post Graduate studies. Following her graduation she worked in the school office as the Secretary to the Principal. She subsequently worked in secretarial positions for several local businesses to include the Falconer Ben Franklin, First Congregational Church in Jamestown, Superior Building Supplies of Jamestown and Schwab AB Dick in Falconer where she retired in 1938 after 18 years.

Her former civic, social and fraternal organizations included the local Falconer Parent Teacher Association, Falconer Senior Citizens, Moon Brook Rebekah Lodge (Falconer), Order of the Eastern Star - Mt. Sinai Mecca Chapter (Jamestown) and the Ellicott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed bowling until the age of 91; reading; short story writing and corresponding on the computer until her eye sight worsened; photography; scrapbooking and genealogy.

Bernice enjoyed traveling and considered herself fortunate to have been able to visit the majority of America's States including Hawaii, as well as, several northern and western European countries and Mexico.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother Ralph E. Herrick, and her younger sister Verla (William) Bly. She is survived by her four children: Joan Brown of Jamestown, Benjamin W. (Sharon) Morey of Falconer, Carol (Terry) Clapham of Lake Tahoe, NV, and Debra (David) Hopkins of Goose Creek, SC.; Seven grandchildren: Randy Brown Jr of Midland, TX; Jody (Doug) Spetz of Jamestown; Jim Brown of Bear Lake, PA.; Will (Julie) Clapham of Santa Cruz, CA.; Lyn Holstead of Castro Valley, CA.; Mark (Jillian) Hopkins of Knoxville, TN.; Eileen (Jose) Flores of Midland, NC.; Ten great- grandchildren, and One great-great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 6, 2017 in the Falconer Funeral Home located at 44 West Falconer Street, Falconer, NY. Friends and relatives of the family will be received from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral services. The Rev. Robert Lewis (Ret.) and Pastor Gordy Robbins of the Falconer First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Falconer, NY. Mt. Sinai Mecca Chapter 132, Order of Eastern Star will conduct a service Saturday at 12:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
