Obituary of Robert Erickson

Robert (Bob) V. Erickson, 98, of Willard Street, Jamestown, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Heritage Park, Jamestown, NY. He was born in Arnot, PA on January 3, 1919, the son of Carl Victor and Mary (Mame) S. Christie Erickson. After moving to Jamestown with his family, he attended Jamestown High School, graduating in 1937. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Co. E serving from September 1940 to September 1941. As our country entered World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from December 1943 until December 1945 with the Amphibian Force in the Pacific. He was life-time member of the VFW Post 53. Bob was a carpenter and all-around handyman retiring in 1981. After retiring, he worked part-time in the service department at Edborg's Appliances. He will be greatly missed by his children and step-children. Everyone who knew Bob said he was a caring person. He will be remembered for his hospitality. Grandpa Bob, to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was always funny. He always had candy and a kind word. Even at the end of his life, he knew every one of them and showed a personal interest in each of them. Robert was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Jamestown; He loved listening to WOGM Christian radio, a ministry of the church. It took him many years to come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. A few months ago, he asked his son to lead him to the Lord and he joyfully gave his life to God. Surviving him are his loving wife, Rose E. (Peck) Erickson, who he married, on December 22, 1974, two sons, Dr. Roger A. (Sylvia) Erickson of Falconer, and Dr. Donald V. (Helen) Erickson of Jamestown, a step-son, George E. (Clarice) Lee of Ashville, four step-daughters, Mary E. (LeRoy) Nash of Alabama, Connie M. Dahlin of Jamestown , Peggy J. (Larry) Straight of Jamestown, and Judy C. Kidder of Jamestown, and grandchildren, William (Amy) Erickson of Falconer, Lori (Ross) Morbey of Bermuda, Andrew Erickson of Jamestown, step-grandchildren, Debbie (Jason) Cordell of Alabama, Becky (Kevin) Boyd of Alabama, Christine (Jeffrey) Camp of Jamestown, Robert (Julie) Dahlin of Jamestown, Stephen (Jackie) Kidder of Florida, Nathan (Amy) Kidder of Ethiopia, Daniel (Kelly) Kidder of Washington, and Catherine (Ryan) Touron of North Carolina. Also, he is survived by 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth L. (Nord) Erickson, a son, Gary R. Erickson, sisters, Janet Benson, Christine Bowen, and Ethel Engwall and a brother, John Erickson, two step son in laws; George Dahlin, and James Kidder.

The funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Thursday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Donald V. Erickson of Light House Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made in his memory to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 381 Camp Street, Jamestown.
