Carl M. Sandstrom, 77, of Jamestown passed away Saturday (May 16, 2020) in his home. He was born January 13, 1943 in East Orange, NJ, the son of the late Carl A. and Bertha L. Smith Sandstrom. Carl was a 1961 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1961 to 1963 in both the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War. In earlier years Carl was a journeyman tool & die maker employed by Automatic Voting Machine, Jamestown Design, Blackstone Corporation and Reliance. Prior to retirement he was employed by Cummins Engine for 22 years retiring in 2001. He attended Holy Apostles Parish/ SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a member of the Jamestown Rifle Club, Lakewood American Legion and Timber Creek Golf Course. Carl enjoyed playing golf and pool. He was gifted at telling a good story or joke. Surviving are his wife of 55 years Sallie Kosinski Sandstrom; two sons: C. Andrew (Tina) Sandstrom of Jamestown, Joseph M. Sandstrom of North Hollywood, CA; two grandsons: Jacob Sandstrom and Jonathan Sandstrom; a brother Steven (Penny) Sandstrom of Ventura, CA; two sisters: Judith (James) Lester of Port Charlotte, FL, Janice (Dennis) Roberg of Lakewood and his cousin Elaine (E-Z) Melquist of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Laurance Sandstrom. A private graveside memorial service will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Mende pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate. Visitation will not be observed due to the COVID 19 Restrictions.
