Rexford J. “Rex” Wissman, 79, of Gerry passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (November 25, 2020) at his home. A lifelong area resident he was born March 5, 1941 in Jamestown, the son of the Oscar and Nellie Damon Wissman. Rex was a 1960 graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School and was employed by (Amsco) American Sterilizer, Ulrich Plan Filing and Adanloc. He also owned and operated the former Town Deli Pizza Shop in Gerry and the Gerry Diner. During retirement Rex was employed at Ken Asel RV. Rex had coached Babe Ruth Baseball in the 1960’s, and during the 1980’s and 90’s coached Gerry Fire Department in the 4th Battalion Softball League. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and was a member of South Hills Country Club. Rex enjoyed attending his kids and grandkids sporting events, golfing and gardening. Surviving are his wife Sally M. Yagger Wissman of 59 years, whom he married October 9, 1961 in Texas; two sons: Tim (Leigh) Wissman, Todd (Laurie) Wissman; a daughter Cynthia Wissman (Josh Davis); four grandchildren: Mike Wissman (Samantha Reale), Alex (Katie) Wissman, Katelyn Wissman, Thomas (Courtney) Wissman; his mother Nellie Wissman; a sister Luella (Hank) Storm and a sister-in-law Daphene Wissman. He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Wissman in 1994 and a brother Jon Wissman in 2011. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Sam Shreffler will officiate. Friends will be received by the family from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Due to CDC and NYS Covid 19 regulations face masks will be required and social distancing observed for all services.
