Cyril E. “Skip” Hays, 86, of Ellington passed away Sunday (January 2, 2022) in UPMC Chautauqua. A life long area resident he was born June 23, 1935 in Jamestown, the son of the late Robert and Mildred Long Hays. Skip attended Southwestern School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1954 to 1957. In earlier years Skip was employed by Dahlstrom’s Manufacturing and Inter Royal Metals and prior to retirement was employed by Rollform. After retirement he was employed parttime at Matco Tool. Skip was a member of the Jamestown Eagles, Moose Lodge and Samuel Derby American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada, birdwatching, especially hummingbirds and orioles and feeding them. Skip loved animals especially his dogs and cats. He enjoyed watching sports on television, listening to country music, going to the casino and taking trips to Las Vegas. Surviving is his cat, Callie; three children: Roxanne Redick of Lakewood, Susan (Dan) Thompson of Falconer, Tom (Lori) Hays of Jamestown; three grandchildren: Amanda Tanner, Scott (Theresa) Thompson, Morgan Hays, a great grandson Colton Thompson; two brothers: James (Barbara) Hays of Kiantone, Lawrence (Laquita) Hays of Apopko, FL. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Johnston Hays whom he married November 29, 1958; who died March 20, 2013; his son-in-law Scott Redick; four sisters: Carol Peters, Olive Saro, MaryLou Terrill, Agnes Hunt; two brothers: Roger and Gary Hays and many beloved pets. A memorial service for Skip will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (January 15, 2022) in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. LaVern Terrill will officiate. Inurnment will be in Ross Mills Cemetery. Friends will be received by the family for one hour prior to the memorial service in the funeral home.
