Richard K. "Dick" Brewer Sr., 78, of Greenhurst Village, Jamestown passed away Friday (March 23, 2018) in his home.
He was born December 8, 1939 in Ellicottville, NY the son of C. Willard and Gertrude Ploetz Brewer.
Richard was a graduate of Ellicottville High School and attended JCC and Fredonia State College. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines Corps in two tours from 1958 to 1961 and 1964 to 1968, serving in Vietnam for 13 months and was honorably discharged.
He was employed by various financial institutions as a computer programmer/ analyst and prior to retirement was employed by Wells Fargo Mortgage in Frederick, Maryland.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, walking and hiking, traveling, reading and driving in the country to observe nature.
He was very fortunate and thankful for the extra years given to him as he was a recipient of a heart transplant in 1998.
Surviving are his two children: Richard K. (Kim) Brewer Jr. of Elkridge, Maryland, Elizabeth (Rod) Baumgartner of Memphis, TN; his loving companion and caregiver Carol Brewer with whom he made his home; his former wife Maxine Brewer of Memphis, TN; three step children: Michele (Brian) Muirhead, Dan Matecki, Terri Wappat (Josh Schupp); seven grandchildren: Chelsea Dinh, Faith Dinh, Andrea Gunnell, Reid Matecki, Jenavin Wappat, Braydyn Wappat, Corinne Wappat; a brother Thomas Brewer of Norwood, Canada and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Geneva Baumgartner and a brother David Brewer.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Visitation will not be observed.
