Valerie C. Bartholomew, 84, of Gerry passed away Saturday (January 19, 2019) in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
A lifelong area resident she was born in Jamestown, the daughter of the late H. Everett and Janet Juanita Darts Barmore.
Valerie was a graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School and Jamestown Business College. In earlier years she was employed by First National Bank in Falconer. She served 20 years as a navy wife and returned to Gerry after her husband Orlo Winston Bartholomew retired from the military. Prior to retirement she was employed by S.M. Flinckingers.
She was a member of the Gerry Senior Citizens, Gerry Grange, Gerry Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary having served as treasurer, Gerry Rodeo Senior Citizens and Gerry United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons: Orlo Dennis (Linda) Bartholomew of Gerry, Kevin L. (Patricia) Bartholomew of Flagg Staff, AZ; three grandchildren: Orlo Jason (Rayele) Bartholomew of Jamestown, Philip Charles (Wendy) Bartholomew of Heber City, Utah, Cassandra L. Bartholomew-Logan (Ryan Logan) of Iwakuni, Japan; eight great grandchildren: Orlo Daniel Bartholomew, Madelaine Bartholomew, Marilyn Bartholomew, Avery Bartholomew, Logan Bartholomew, Alex Logan, Taralyn Logan, Gideon Logan and a brother W. Dale (Ellen) Barmore of Gerry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orlo Winston Bartholomew whom she married July 4, 1953 in Gerry, who died February 14, 2018 and a brother Ronald E. Barmore.
A graveside service will be held at a day and time to be announced in June 2019 in Gerry Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be donated to Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, Gerry United Methodist Church, Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care or a charity of one’s choice.
