Obituary of Bruce R. Caswell, Sr.

Bruce R. Caswell, Sr., 77, of Kennedy passed away Tuesday (May 21, 2019) in UPMC Chautauqua.

A lifelong area resident he was born September 14, 1941 in Jamestown, the son of the late Russell and Betty Reynolds Caswell.

Bruce attended Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1959 to 1963 aboard the USS Caloosahatchee A098.  Prior to retirement he was employed by Hill Trucking retiring in 2010.  Along with his wife Shirley they served as Foster parents for many years.

He was a member of the Randolph Post 181, American Legion.  Bruce loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, camping, steam engines, woodworking and making furniture.  He will be remembered for his ability to fix just about anything and always willing to lend a helping hand to others.  He enjoyed spending time in his garage tinkering on projects or doing restoration projects.

Surviving are his wife Shirley J. Bennett Caswell whom he married July 2, 1960 in Ivory Baptist Church; three children: Bruce R. (Lisa) Caswell Jr. of Kennedy, Rhonda (Jason) Stalker of Irving, Gary (Colleen) Caswell of Kennedy; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother David (Julie) Caswell of Greers Ferry, AR and a sister Shirley (Gordy) Colburn of Aiken, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Caswell family would like to thank Dr. Connor, Dr. Sood, Dr. Ibabo, Roswell Park and the Kennedy Fire Department for helping Bruce for the past several years.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home.  Rev. David Caswell, Bruce’s brother will officiate.  Burial will be in Kennedy Riverside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
