Obituary of Sylvia Schrader
Sylvia Schrader, age 79 of Falconer, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday (July 17, 2019). Sylvia passed peacefully knowing she was surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
A lifelong Falconer resident, she was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Ricotta Colera.
After enjoying a childhood that involved many gatherings with her Aunts, Uncles and numerous cousins, Sylvia graduated from Falconer High School in 1957. One of her proudest accomplishments while there was being chosen “Best Dressed”, and remaining fashionable was something she was known for well into her retirement.
She married Louis Schrader on July 26, 1958 and together they raised 5 children of whom she was so very proud! Sylvia and Lou were very involved in their community and church. They were active in the Newcomer’s Organization and Jaycees and Jayncees. Sylvia was a faithful member of Our Lady of Loreto Church as a lifetime parishioner, and served in many roles, including Religious Education Director, teacher, and in the Altar and Rosary Society. She chaired numerous other church committees and was a lector, Eucharistic minister and a member of the church vocal and bell choirs. Sylvia was employed by Regal Lumber and Falconer Central Schools as a teacher’s aide, retiring in 2010. Second only to the love for her lord, was the love for her family and friends. She and Lou were part of a monthly card club with whom they cherished their times and friendships. Sylvia was known for her ability to create a pasta dinner for a crowd in a matter of minutes and her immense love for babies and puppies!
Sylvia is survived by her 5 children and their spouses. Steve(Patricia)Schrader of Allen TX, Paula(Tim)Bastian and David(Stephanie)Schrader both of Omaha, NE, Robert(Melissa) Schrader of East Bridgewater, MA and Christopher(Tracy) Schrader of Falconer. The grandchildren she adored include Stephen, John, Mary, Thomas, Michael, Sr. Francisca (Samantha), Annie, Joe, David, Nina, Max, Gianna, Matthew, Lucie, Grace, Luke, Benjamin and Addison. Sylvia also has 7 great-grandchildren and her precious Toby who gave her lots of joy!
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Louis who died on January 26, 2012, her sister Marian Grushetsky and 2 infant children.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Falconer Funeral Home. The Altar and Rosary Society will conduct a prayer service beginning at 3:30p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in Falconer. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Falconer Central School for the Louis and Sylvia Schrader Scholarship Fund.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Brookdale of Lakewood, Memory Gardens, and Heritage Park for helping to care and love Sylvia over the past 2 years.
