Obituary of Clarence R. Metcalfe, Jr.
Clarence R. Metcalfe, Jr., 77, of Carlson Towers, formerly of South Main St. Ext., Jamestown, passed away Friday (August 30, 2019) in the Lutheran Home.
A lifelong area resident he was born December 19, 1941 in Jamestown, the son of the late Clarence R. and Dorothy Ohman Metcalfe Arnold.
Clarence attended Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War and Cuban Crisis, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964. He was employed by the Local Carpenters Union 66 for 30 years retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Ingjald Lodge 65, I.O.V, Falconer Fire Department for 10 years and Exempts, and Samuel Derby Post, American Legion. Clarence enjoyed hunting and bee keeping. He was also proud of the house he built and lived in on South Main St. Ext.
Surviving are his wife Barbara O. Irwin Metcalfe whom he married April 3, 1965 in Jamestown; two daughters: Charlotte Barber of Jamestown, Jennifer (Troy) Gibson of Jamestown; 9 grandchildren: Tyler Barber of Jamestown, Brandon Barber, Dylan Barber both of Louisiana, Corey Gibson of Youngsville, PA , Casey Gibson, Haley Gibson both of Warren, Tristin Gibson, Benjamin Gibson both of Jamestown and Dacoda Buchanan of Warren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister Cynthia (James) Till of Getzville, NY, a half-brother Edwin Metcalfe of Los Vegas, NV; two half-sisters; Nadine Adams and Rhonda Adams both of Jamestown.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother David Metcalfe in 2006; two half-brothers: Marcus Metcalfe, Kelly Metcalfe and his step father George Arnold.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Phillip Rohler pastor of Pilgrim Memorial Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
