Obituary of Joseph H. Mowry
Joseph H. Mowry, 80, of Jamestown passed away Tuesday (September 24, 2019) in UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born February 18, 1939 in Greenville, PA, the son of the late Leon and Margaret Rowe Mowry.
Joe attended Greenville High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964. He was employed by the Post Journal as a pressman for 40 years, retiring in 2007.
Joe was a member of the Samuel Derby Post 556, American Legion, Herman Kent Post 777, American Legion. He enjoyed camping at Homestead Park Campground and helping with campground maintenance. He also enjoyed watching sports on television.
Surviving are his wife Dona M. Barr Mowry whom he married October 29, 1965 in Greenville, PA; a son Donald Mowry of Frewsburg; two daughters: Denise Pavlock of Jamestown, Cynthia (Daniel) Brown of Erie, PA; four grandchildren: Aaron (Jenn) Pavlock, Adam Pavlock both of Jamestown and Samantha Brown, Carl Brown both of Erie, PA .
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Cassandra Finch in 1991, his son-in-law George Pavlock in 2017, a brother Richard Mowry, and a sister Anna Mae Weaver.
The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Pastor Jennifer Delahoy of Camp Street United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The Koinonia Community will sing “Amazing Grace” at 5:45 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
