Obituary of Leo A. Muscarella

Leo Anthony Muscarella, 100 years old, of St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home, Silver Creek, formerly of Jamestown, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020. A lifelong area resident, he was born on May 1, 1920 in Falconer, NY, the son of the late Salvatore Muscarella and Nina (Provenzano) Muscarella. Leo was a graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII from 1939 to 1944. He served aboard the USS Fox Destroyer which was stationed in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Prior to retirement Leo was employed by the former Watsons Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Ira Lou Spring Post 149, American Legion and the former John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Leo was a master carpenter. One accomplishment that he was most proud of was his high school senior project. He constructed an entire bedroom set made of solid maple wood. He loved woodworking and along with his late brother Lory, they built several custom kitchen cabinets and furniture pieces for family members. Leo is survived by his son, Retired Colonel Samuel Muscarella and his wife Dr. Theresa Muscarella of Melbourne, Florida; two grandchildren: Samantha Brown of Bemus Point, Anthony Muscarella of Jamestown; three great grandchildren: Tesla Marie Brown, Bailey Joy Brown and Ashlin Grace Brown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude C. (Dickinson) Muscarella who died December 3, 1977; his son Leo F. Muscarella Jr. who died May 16, 2004; four brothers: Michael, Sam, Dr. Joseph, Lory Muscarella and his sister Rose Manfrey. Due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic, a graveside memorial service will be scheduled for a later date in 2021 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Jamestown, where his wife Gertrude is buried.
