Obituary of Jerry Nelson
Gerald W. “Jerry” Nelson, 82, of Jamestown, passed away Sunday (January 24, 2021) in UPMC Chautauqua. A lifelong area resident he was born July 23, 1938 in Jamestown, the son of the late William and Lucille Glad Nelson. Jerry was a graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the U.S. Navy. Prior to retirement in 2004 he was employed by Valeo for 40 years. He was a member of the 72nd NY Volunteer Infantry North South Skirmish Association for 56 years, NRA, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Busti Historical Society, Fenton Historical Society, WAR Vets Recreation and Jamestown Community Chapel. Jerry enjoyed collecting and learning about antique guns particularly ones made in Chautauqua County. It was very important to him that the gun makers of Chautauqua County be remembered. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Surviving is his daughter Melissa (Charlie) Klenke of W.E. Jamestown; two sons: Steven (Tina) Nelson of Scranton, PA, Gerald R. (Jennifer) Nelson of Hampton, CT; five grandchildren: Nicholas Klenke, Taylor Nelson, Daniel Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Megan Nelson and a sister Sue (Vere) Lindquist of Jamestown. His extended family Brandey(Chris) Oakes, Brandon Lucariello, Peyton Oakes and Marissa Oakes along with his close neighbors and friends Jim and Carole Toth. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Deborah J. Hanstrom Nelson whom he married July 6, 1974 in Busti, who died January 17, 2012; a son William R. Nelson and a sister Carol Ainey. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Due to CDC and NYS Covid 19 restrictions face masks will be required and social distancing observed during the visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
