Caryl Peterson Mattison Caryl Peterson Mattison 95 of Falconer died on Tuesday February 2, 2021 at UPMC in Jamestown. A Falconer resident for most of her life, she was born in Falconer on January 28, 1926, the fourth of eight children, to Clarence and Judith Carlson Peterson. She was a 1943 graduate of Falconer High School. Caryl married Albert Fuller Mattison at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Falconer on September 22, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2007. Inheriting her personal strength from her mother, Caryl was always in charge. While others, especially her husband, thought that they had her convinced to do their way, the reality was truly the opposite. Living in Falconer until 1958 when they relocated to Millersville, PA and lived there seven years before moving to Manchester, NH in 1965 then returning to Falconer in 1982. While residing in Manchester, NH she was employed at the Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences as a Program Director and Registrar from 1966 to 1976. In 1976, she became the Executive Director of the Manchester Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and in 1981 becoming part of the National MS Field staff until retiring in 1988. She was a longtime member of the Thule Lodge No. 127 Vasa Order of America and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Upon retiring, she took up her most favorite role as Grandmother. She was very active in the lives of her four grandchildren and looked forward to her daily calls with them. Caryl was an avid knitter and weaver. She supplied multiple generations with place mats, pot holders, dish cloths, sweaters, mittens, scarves and hats. In recent years, many school children received her mittens and winter caps. She is survived by her two sons: Gale Mattison and his wife Donna of Palos Verdes Estates, California, Dr. Timothy Mattison and his wife Dr. Eve Rice of Bedford, New York. Her sister, Fanchon Fuller of Falconer. Four grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Dr. Lucy Brining of Hermosa Beach California, Nathaniel of Brooklyn New York, Elizabeth and Julia both of Toronta, Canada. Her two great grandchildren, Andrew and Adeline, of Hermosa Beach California. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leland, Duane, Burtis, and Warren Peterson and her sisters, Shirley Olsen and Maxine Olson. Caryl was grateful to live as part of an extended family and community. The love and support from her nieces, nephew and care givers allowed her to remain in her home until her final two days. The family would also like to thank Dr. Jairus Ibabao and staff for their excellent care that was given to her for over 11 years. The funeral will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 2 p.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church located at 20 N. Phetteplace St. Falconer. Rev. Timothy Hoyer will officiate. Visiting hours will be held at the church from 12-2 on Sunday. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
