Obituary of Dennis R. Riffel

Dennis Robert Riffel, 74, of Kennedy passed away Thursday (April 8, 2021) in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA following a complicated illness. A lifelong area resident he was born July 18, 1946 in Jamestown, the son of the late Robert G. and Eleanor Mattison Riffel. Dennis attended Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS La Salle from 1967 to 1968. He had also served one year in the Naval Reserves. In earlier years Dennis was employed at Dahlstrom’s, Stow Ferry during the summer months and helped lay the gas lines and telephone lines in Kennedy. He had served as a Town of Poland Police Officer for Judge Judy Shields and was a member of the Kennedy Volunteer Fire Department. Prior to retirement Dennis was employed by the Chautauqua County Highway Department for over 30 years. After retirement he was employed by Value Home Center in Lakewood for 10 years. Dennis enjoyed bowling, golfing, building soap box derby cars with his grandsons for Cub Scouts, spending time with family, daily walks and playing with animals after adopting them from the SPCA. He was also instrumental in running the Chaut. Co. Highway Department Golf League for over 30 years at Chautauqua Point Golf Club. Surviving are his wife Linda Ohman Riffel whom he married August 15, 1966 in Michigan; a daughter Sara L. (Michael) Wickham of Jamestown; two grandsons: Anthony E. Martinez and Jonathan D. Martinez both of Jamestown; a brother Rick Q. (Nancy) Riffel of Charlotte, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor Riffel in 1995 and father Robert Riffel in 2001. A Celebration of Dennis Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Pastor Jennifer Delahoy pastor of Kennedy United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
