Obituary of Donald L. Rexroad

Donald L. Rexroad, 90, of Buffalo St. Ext passed away Monday (September 6, 2021) in Absolut of Westfield. He was born October 11, 1930 in Clarksburg, WV, the son of the late Roscoe H. Rexroad and Rose Pearl Sayre Ludwig. Don was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School, and attended Jamestown Community College. Post high school, Don owned and operated Rex the Florist and State Theater in Falconer. In 1959 he opened State Lanes Inc. in Falconer and a few years later, Leisure Lanes Inc. in Lakewood. State Lanes kicks off its 62nd season with one of the oldest leagues in the country. Don was a very long-time member of the Mt. Moriah Lodge 145 F & A M, Jamestown Shriners, Professional Photographers of America, and Wally Byam Caravan Club having served as NY State President. He was the official photographer for urban renewal for Jamestown documenting the Brooklyn Square changes. He was a proud member of Civil Air Patrol at Chautauqua Airport. He was the official photographer for the Bemus Point Bridge. He was an executive officer of the National Guard. His photography earned him recognition and awards from New York State and from the Tampa Bay Area. He was a voracious reader, a lover of football, and was known to enjoy his pipe or a good cigar. Surviving is his wife Barbara J. Cornwell Rexroad whom he married March 12, 1955 in the Falconer United Methodist Church; three children: Kelley Rexroad (Brian Walsh) of Odessa, FL, Marylyn Brittigan of Lexington, VA, David Rexroad of Falconer; a granddaughter Abigail Rexroad. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Donald Edison Rexroad on February 9, 2006; several relatives, including two favorite aunts: Mary Sheffer and Viola Sheffer. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family, as requested by Don. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m on Wednesday, Sept 15 in the Falconer United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 201 N. Work St., Falconer, NY 14733. Memorial contributions may be donated the Falconer Public Library, 101 W. Main St., Falconer, NY 14733 or Ronald McDonald House of Rochester 333 Westmoreland Dr., Rochester, NY 14620.
