Peggy Higley

Obituary of Peggy Higley

Peggy Higley, 66, of Jamestown NY, passed away on November 3, 2021 after a courageous, valiant and downright inspiring battle with cancer. Born on the first of December in 1954 to the late Archie Higley Sr and Ido Nord Prine, Peggy exhibited plenty of the characteristics that are commonly associated with the Sagittarius sign of the zodiac. Residing with the Foote Avenue A2 Home for TRC and by proxy of moving into the Fairmount Home also ran by TRC in February 1993, Peggy had the opportunity to show plenty of staff those aforementioned characteristics such as flamboyancy and theatricality. Being playful and spunky, the people that have worked with her over the course of her life had the opportunity to meet an individual that was both loving and youthful, regardless of the years that passed following her birth. Everybody who has ever met Peggy has experienced her various articles of her jewelry and clothing, and they have heard firsthand one of her various quips or phrases. These defining traits, as well as those quips and phrases previously stated, have brought joy and smiles to every life that she ever touched. One of the things that Peggy enjoyed in life was her day program, most recently at TRC’s Senior Adult Dayhab facility. In between her residencies at Fairmount and Foote Avenue A2, she also spent time residing at the Forest Avenue home for a period of about six years, from 2013 until June of 2019. The activities Peggy enjoyed above all else in life included getting coffee or soda, playing BINGO, spending money and singing and dancing to music, of which she enjoyed country music above all else, and everybody who knew Peggy knows that she absolutely revered her favorite country music singer, Alan Jackson. One of Peggy’s favorite possessions in her life (of which there were plenty) was her beloved television which she would view on a regular basis, with her favorite TV shows included Criminal Minds and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, among other, similar television programs. Embodying a fearless and bold spirit so thoroughly that there could a picture of her smiling face next to those words in the dictionary, Peggy truly enjoyed the little things in life, and was always willing and excited to explore new opportunities and experiences. She was a bold woman in every sense of that word as well, being more than willing and more than able to verbalize the specifics of what she liked and what she did not like, as well as always showing a willingness to speak her mind whenever deemed necessary. If one phrase had to be used to describe Peggy, ‘life of the party’ would be fitting and appropriate. Peggy was survived by ten siblings – Ronald, John, Leon, Leland, Archie, Beverly, Betsy, Linda, Isabell and Ida. Peggy was preceded in death by siblings Joey, Philip, Thomas, Carol and Charlotte. A truly unique person that only comes along once in a lifetime, Peggy has brought more laughter, joy, tranquility and life to every single soul that she ever touched; more than she could have ever even knew herself. The world says goodbye to her, but those impacted by the life that she lived will continue to carry with them the experiences they have had with her. Peggy had a way of being able to borderline frustrate you at times, then turn around, make a joke or say one of her statements and just make you feel ridiculous for being frustrated in the first place. Known for her trademark laughter during these moments of playfulness, those that know her believe that trademark laughter is ringing loudly now from heaven. A true angel in life, Peggy Higley could be nothing but an angel following life as well. She will be missed. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Carmen Perry chaplain of Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to the funeral service Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be donated to The Resource Center, 200 Dunham Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
