Shawn P. Hough, 59, of Ellington, NY, passed away unexpectedly, at his cabin on the mountain in Tennessee, on Saturday, November 7, 2021.
Shawn was the owner of Hough’s Excavating for many years. He started his career in the landscaping department of Walt Disney World in Florida and after his marriage he moved back to western New York and eventually owned and operated large excavating equipment, where he specialized digging ponds…they were his babies and he was proud of each and everyone one of them. He thoroughly enjoyed all of his customers as he was outgoing, jovial and had the ability to talk to anyone and always gave great advice.
For much of his life, Shawn was an avid snowmobiler, hunter and motorcycle rider, in all forms and disciplines. He was a crack shot who enjoyed long distance target shooting and he was amazing when it came to the repair of just about anything.
Shawn was passionate and precise about everything and lived life to the fullest. He had an incredible ability to “see” what a finished project would look like when completed and he coupled that ability with being able to plan the most efficient and professional way to achieve the goal.
Though he left no children of his own, he adored the children of his close friends and they adored him right back, primarily because he was a big kid himself and he knew how to make any task or occasion something fun and special. Shawn had an amazingly quick wit, loved to laugh and make others laugh too.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan Hough, his beloved mother, Shirley Clark, and his amazing dog, Jack. He is also survived by his brother, Myron Hough III (Kathy), his nieces and nephew, his beloved aunt, Phyllis Mayer, and his cousin, Heidi Vandiver (Norman). The family, particularly, Shawn’s wife, Susan, would like to thank everyone who has provided (and there are many) so much support and comfort at this time.
