Obituary of George D. Sheesley

George D. Sheesley, 76, of Jamestown passed away Wednesday (February 2, 2022) in UPMC Chautauqua. He was born September 12, 1945 in Punxsutawney, PA, the son of the late Boyd and Mildred Kuntz Sheesley. George attended schools in Punxsutawney and Jamestown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1963- 1967. He was assigned to the USS Josephus Daniels as a plank crew member. After 2 years on the ship, he was stationed at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. Prior to retirement he was employed by Jamestown Roofing for over 40 years and was a one-time Union Representative for the Roofers Local Union 210. George was a member of the former John W. Tiffany Post VFW and Ira Lou Spring Post American Legion. In earlier years he coached Little League Baseball, played softball, played flag football and bowled in various leagues, even having bowled a 300 game. He was very proud of his children playing sports, never missing any of their games. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking and woodworking, completing many projects for his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife JoAnne Evanczik Sheesley whom he was married to for 50 years; three children: Timothy Sheesley of Jamestown, Kelly Sheesley of Scottsdale, AZ, and Michael (Erica) Sheesley of Frewsburg. Known affectionately as “Pa-Pa-Do” he is survived by his five grandchildren: Payton, Tanyon, Maddox, Asher and Harlow Sheesley. He is also survived by two sisters: Shirley Payton and Janet Staples both of Cartersville, GA and a sister-in-law Becky Sheesley of Bemus Point. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Sheesley and Thomas Sheesley and a sister Carol Custer. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home. A private, full military service will be held Tuesday in the funeral home.
