Obituary of Joseph F. Ruggerio, Jr.

Joseph Frank Ruggerio, Jr., 80, of Jamestown passed away on Monday (March 21, 2022) in UPMC Chautauqua. Joseph was born on May 8, 1941 in Jamestown to Joseph and Julia Ruggerio Sr. In his younger years he enjoyed playing racket ball and hand ball at the YMCA. During his school years he was a member of Chi Sigma Chi Fraternity. Joe graduated in 1959 from Jamestown High School. Later, he helped to raise funds with other members from the fraternity for the boy’s club. He worked at Marlin Rockwell and for Laborers Local 600 retiring in 1992. In his spare time, Joe liked to try his luck at the casino. After retirement he enjoyed his long walks, rain or shine, and he also enjoyed tending his flower garden at his home on Stowe Street. Joe was a member St. John’s Catholic Church and a member of the Jamestown Boys Club Alumni. He also was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club for many years. He enjoyed being a member of the round table at McDonalds going there each morning. He loved watching old westerns and Ancient Aliens on TV. He and his wife loved to travel, and they enjoyed Opera. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter, Alivia. He is survived by his wife Patricia J. Bellardo Ruggerio whom he married October 7, 1961 in St. John’s Catholic Church; his children: Joanna (Scot) Hedlund of Jamestown, Joseph (Linda) Ruggerio of Amherst, and Johnie Ruggerio (Ames Smart) of Ohio. Grandchildren: Lauren Ruggerio (Ryan Dalaba) of Jamestown, Ryan Ruggerio, Reece Ruggerio, Jace Ruggerio all of Ohio; two step grandchildren: Laura (Robert) Connell of Amherst, NY, Lorena (Justin) Modrzynski of Clarence Center, NY; Great granddaughter Alivia Dalaba and two step great grandchildren; Lila and Luke Connell of Amherst. Two brothers: Richard (Emily) Ruggerio of Florida, and Ralph (Diane) Ruggerio of Florida and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Joe was loved and will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Cygan will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be donated to the Chi Sig Fund for the Boys and Girls club in honor of Joe.
