Peggy Lynn Straus

Obituary of Peggy Lynn Straus

Peggy "Lynn" Cornell Straus, 64, of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away suddenly March 29, 2022. She was born October 17, 1957 in Jamestown, NY to the late Norman and Margaret Cornell. Lynn grew up in Falconer and attended Falconer Central School until her junior year, then moved with her family to Ellicottville and graduated from Ellicottville Central School in 1975 with honors. She received a BA in English from Houghton College. She married Scott "Jim" Straus on July 10, 1982, and they lived together in their Westside, Buffalo home for many years, where friends, family, and community were always welcome. In her youth she attended Levant Wesleyan Church and became a committed Christian. Lynn is survived by her husband, Jim Straus, of North Tonawanda, NY; sister, Dr. Diane C. Cornell-McCoy (Mike McCoy), of Mayville, NY and four children: Rachel Wagner (Joe), of South Wales, NY; Aaron Straus (Julie) of Bradford, PA; Jonathan Straus (Dominique), of Niagara Falls, NY; and Nathaniel Straus (Ashley Voyard), of Palm Beach Florida, and niece Christina McCoy Mayville, NY. She is also survived by many grandchildren and loving aunts Elsie Wall, Audrey Allison, and Rose Marie Cornell. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her uncles John "Jack" wall, and Eugene Cornell, a cousin, Jean Marie Cornell Coco and granddaughter, Annabelle Straus. Mrs. Straus was currently a teacher at the Ohr Temimim (Jewish Heritage) School and previously worked as a Director of Christian Education at Christian schools in East Aurora, NY, Hillsborough Ohio, and Wyomissing, PA along with serving many years as an on-line educator. Lynn was a kind person, full of love, compassion, and a tender heart. Lynn was such an unselfish person, incredible mother and always caring for others. She instilled in her kids a Christian heritage and challenged them to be good parents and persons of conscience from a young age. Aside from the positive influence on her children's lives, Lynn was a dedicated educator who worked hard to develop creative lessons that teach children to read and write, regardless of their background or circumstances. Although not Jewish it was said that the Jewish community regarded her as one B'khavod, or honor, because of her unique ability to respect and integrate their cultural practices into her classroom as if she was one of their own. The viewing will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 1 pm at the Falconer Funeral Home at 44 W. Falconer St. Falconer, NY, followed by the funeral service at 2 pm.
